This Final Major Project reflects upon the increasing reliance on technology,
particularly AI, within the creative industries. In exploring whether this shift is
an inevitability, various philosophical perspectives have been considered.
This 150 page book delves further into the intricacies and uniqueness
of authentic, human-made design.
It was important to delve into the physical world of design, through
mark-making and letterpress. These processes generated textures that were
rich in detail, so by scanning them at very high definition, I could zoom into
smallersub-sections for different page designs.
Chapter 4: Man vs Machine
This chapter has a very clear and distinct rythm to it, it starts with machine.
It starts with the absence of humanity, monospaced type harsh lines and
lots of white space. As the chapter progresses, the human factor is reintroduced
page by page until it peaks, which includes hand-drawn scribbles, print from
letterpress and the human hand itself.
Each of the 5 chapters of this book contain a variety of perspectives on
the impact that emerging AI technology is having in various fields as
diverse as acting and policing. Case studies of design practitioners who
have resisted embracing the digital landscape have been considered.
The methodology of this book’s creation has similarly been a celebration
of analogue and physical design methods.
